Favourite books
(Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World), 村上 春樹(Murakami Haruki), 1985. Confusing, some kind of twisted Alice in Wonderland meets brain analysis. Nice end. (The back I want to kick), (Wataya Risa), 2005. First (real) book I read from a Japanese author. When I finished it I couldn't tell if it was good or not, which is a way for me to say it IS something valuable. I particularly liked the way Hatsu describes high-school relationships. And for once, the French translation of the title is brilliant, though it has nothing to do with the Japanese one. (Murakami Ryu), 2000. I freaked out when I read the last page. Haunting. Don't want to think about it too much. Murakami Ryu has this particular thing that makes you uneasy, but you just can't stop reading. L'autoroute sauvage, Gilles Thomas, 1977. One of my favourite books, although I have been told it's quite poor. Part 1 of a trilogy, the first one (as usual) being the best. I really think this is how things might go if civilisation as we know it disappears. Sheeps, wolves....and dictators. (Takeuchi Naoko), 1990s. Ahhh... Mangas... Part of my childhood, I think I know it almost by heart. Hopefully I will never wear short skirts. (Ogawa Yayoi), 2000. Another manga. I reaaaally like the story, drawings are original as well. Not too long. The drama is unfortunately not so good (No, Jun Matsumoto is NOT a good actor). The Women's Room, Marilyn French (1977). This book was waiting for me in the flat I stayed in when I was in Edinburgh, Scotland. good timing, as I had been reading about feminism at the time. Great book. L'Ecume des Jours (Froth on the Daydream), Boris Vian (1947) . Magnificent. Poor little mouse.
Favourite movies
(3-Iron), Kim Ki-duk, 2005. My favourite movie so far (yeah, I'm a romantic at heart). I don't know anything about how films are supposed to be made or light or anything, but this movie is just beautiful. All slow and poetic. Wonderful actor. The mirror scene is unforgettable. (Cloud-capped Star), Ritwik Ghatak, 1960. Wow...I will never thank my former German flatmate enough for dragging me to the theatre to watch that movie. Another slow movie, black and white, all about women. Beautiful music by Jyotirindra Moitra and Ustad Bahadur Khan in it. Die Fetten Jahre sind Vorbei (The Edukators), Hans Weingartner, 2003. Nice German movie. Interesting actors, nice scenario, nice ideas. And... Nosferatu, C'est arrivé près de chez vous(Man bites dog), Trainspotting, Punishment Park, Shaun of the Dead,La Haine(Hate), Maria llena eres de gracia (Maria full of grace),The Boondock Saints,The Wind that Shakes the Barley...
Favourite tv shows
Euronews' No comment : the only TV show where there is NO difference between what you see and what you hear. Canal +'s Zapping : or how to sum up a day of television in a few seconds. Always clever.
Favourite quotes
"つきにきわって, おしおきよ" "Make me a sandwich. - What ? Make it yourself. - Sudo make me a sandwich. - OK." "C’est l’histoire d’un homme qui tombe d’un immeuble de cinquante étages. Le mec au fur et à mesure de sa chute, il se répète sans cesse pour se rassurer : “jusqu’ici tout va bien, jusqu’ici tout va bien, jusqu’ici tout va bien”. Mais l’important c’est pas la chute, c’est l’atterrissage". “It’s hard to tell that the world we live in is either a reality or a dream.” "Mieux vaut tard que trop tard." "Je n’aime pas les gens bêtes. La bêtise, c'est de la paresse. La bêtise, c’est un mec qui vit et qui se dit, ça me suffit. Je vis, je vais bien, ça suffit. C’est celui qui ne se botte pas le cul tous les matins en se disant, c'est pas assez, tu ne sais pas assez de choses, tu ne vois pas assez de choses. Une espèce de graisse autour du coeur et autour du cerveau."
