The Twelves Remix Practically Everybody [MUSIC]

11010921497?profile=original

Brazilian DJ Duo, Joao Miguel & Luciano Oliveira--The Twelves, are not named for an obscure Mayan prophecy, rather the strange coincidence that has to do with their birthdays falling on the same day of the same year. But then again, it very well could be an ancient prediction that they would remix the #$&! out of nearly anything they could get their hands on. Cause they have done exactly that.

Featured on their remix album are 80's favorite A-Ha, along with Daft Punk, Groove Armada, Radiohead and Fleet Foxes. Also making an appearence are the Brits: Metric & Black Kids.  The list goes on, but let's just skip straight to the music.

Best Coast & Wavves bring that surf-style rock to the holiday season with their California Christmas song, 'Got Something For You' which they also licensed to Guitar Center. Tis' the season for giving--and then receiving a nice paycheck. Although they'll probably end up spending it all at Guitar Center so who really wins in this situation?

And if you haven't already heard their collabo on the 7'' Vinyl 'Summer Is Forever' EP, check it out below. Go ahead and get your beach on'.

Besides being from the awesome-sounding city of Bangor, Ireland [are you serious?] Two-Door Cinema Club is a great indie band to boot. Signing to a French label has given them the opportunity to shine not just with their own brand of catchy tunes, but take a stab at other Frenchies such as Phoenix. Also featured on this album is Alex Metric who has remixed pracitcally everything under the Sun from Gorillaz, Bloc Party, Depeche Mode and N.E.R.D. Fellow U.K. chaps Friendly Fires makes a stellar mix as well.

Their cuisine is questionable, but their musical talent is not...

Holidays are all about the music. Coming together, singing songs and engaging in general festive behavior. Michael Buble hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend and it wouldn't be Christmas without some old-fashioned duets from the crooner and friends.

Thom Yorke [kind of] showed up to sing, along with Sting, Justin Beiber, M.I.A. and Russel Brand. Of course the reality is they all had better things to do I'm sure so they sent their imposters, host Jimmy Fallon and Fred Arminsen and the rest of the SNL cast.

Lotus born

Coming back from His journey, he saw a small boy born in a Lotus flower and asked Him who are you?

My mother is the Ever-Excellent Lady, the space of all things.

I belong to the caste of indivisible space and awareness.

I have taken the unborn dharmadatu as my homeland.

My purpose is the act of killing disturbing emotions."

Comes, as it wishes

Goes, as it wishes

When, as it wishes

Where, as it wishes

For it, so unpredictable, a dream a hope can not bear

For it, anxiety, expectation becomes unbearable

For it, a distant beauty of soulful connection, all it offers

For it, is a nomad of banishment it holds true

Cut Copy/The Wombats/The Rapture [MUSIC]

11010917671?profile=original

Cut Copy the Austalian electro group who's 2011 effort was titled, 'Zonoscope' just got a fresh remix by Andrew Weatherall on the track 'Sun God.' Fairly upbeat, synth-heavy and sounding like a faster version of the 'Safety Dance' by Men Without Hats [although if they did wear hats, it would probably be a lot safer].

What happened in 1996? Who knows. But The Wombats have a song about it aptly titled '1996'. These lads from Liverpool have an album out, 'This Modern Glitch' and their hit song has been given a dance club remix by Lenno, who has also given new life to bands like Foster The People and Super Mal. Time to bring back the 90's!

Finally, a band from the good ol' C of NY. The Rapture are back with a new EP, 'In The Grace Of Your Love' which contains the single, 'How Deep Is Your Love?' Don't worry, it's not a cover of the original by the Bee Gees...This new, unrelated track features horns, electro-house and rock elements. And as if that wasn't enough, it just got mixed by Casual Encounters. You can really hear the horns on this on.

The Shins Reunite On The Morrow [MUSIC]

11010916854?profile=original

The Shins are returning return with a new album in March through singer James Mercer’s own record label: Aural Apothecary

It’s been five long years since the band’s last release, 'Wincing the Night Away,' but in that time, Mercer released two works with Danger Mouse under the group name Broken Bells--definitely check them out! But now they have come back around for next year's 'Port of Morrow,' a collection of 10 songs recorded in Los Angeles and Portland over the course of the past year.

Peep the official tracklist below and the very bizarre Jacob Escobedo-designed album art. How many faces can you spot in this image? Hint: I'm not giving you any hints.

Beck Takes Us There With Feist [MUSIC]

11010917464?profile=original

Wacky alternative personality Beck [not Glenn Beck although he's plenty wacky himself], is taking us all there with his latest remix of Feist's song 'How Come You Never Go There?'  Which begs question, what took him so long? The song is now fully equipped with deep bass, pitch-distorted vocals and a more electronic feel.

Kings Of Leon Get A 9-Minute Workout [MUSIC]

11010915688?profile=original

Most rock songs don't dare exceed a solid 4 minutes unless they're magical journeys by Led Zeppelin or consistently trippy Pink Floyd. But they've earned it. It's been a rough year for Kings Of Leon however. With lead singer Nathan Followill blowing out his voice in August at a show in Dallas and thus forcing the band to cancel their entire tour, perhaps they could use some help in extending their presence as the year draws to a close.

To do that, The Kings have enlisted the help of Royksopp to remix their track 'The Immortals.' Not from the movie, but from their latest LP, 'Come Around Sundown'. So what do you get when you combine Norwegian dance maestros and southern rock n' roll? You get this 9-minute dance hall jam:

Norah Jones Is A Hallucination [MUSIC]

11010915869?profile=original

On a very special, and hallucinatory holiday episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, the globe-trotting sharp-tounged food afficianado explores his darkest Christmas ever. And its all in his mind. After getting kicked out by his wife, he descends upon New York City for a sad adventure to fill both his stomach and his time before returning back to reality.

Making a stellar cameo in this 'nightmare' is Norah Jones, who sings sweetly in the lounge of the Ace Hotel, swooning the sad Bourdain with her rendition of 'Silent Night.'  I'm usually not one for Christmas songs, but in this case I am very much hoping for a full version soon as this was painfully beautiful. Sporting a sexy new do, and exchanging her piano for a guitar, she lulls Bourdain to sleep once more.

Check out the video HERE:

And listen to her work with Jack White and Daniel Luppi on Dangermouse's album  'Rome'.

The Antlers Rock Out For The Widows [MUSIC]

11010914496?profile=original

'If I ever get back home...' I'm gonna be listening to the gorgeous falsetto vocals of Peter Silberman and The Antlers on loop. There seems to be a trend these days with studio-made acoustic sessions, but when a band like this  can sound just as amazing in a tiny room as they do in front of an arena, who's really going to complain?? You might not have gotten to see it, but at least you can still hear it. Right? ...Right.

Well fresh off-the-mixer is a small set of new renditions from this years'  acclaimed 'Burst Apart'. Have a peak with your earballs and peep the beautifulness.

Start A Ra Ra Riot...Acoustically [MUSIC]

The infamous Syracuse band Ra Ra Riot are offering some rare acoustic performances in-studio with the daytrotters at Big Orange Studios. Having known this band, I can say that they are a pretty cool group of people--music ain't too bad either. Check out some jams from their latest, 'The Orchard'. Although the hottie on the cello Allie Lawn doesn't get to sing her Nancy Sinatra-esque song 'You & And I Know' I will forgive them anyway...

The Aqua Teen Hunger Force have a few choice words for you this holiday season. Particularly, if you don't want to have you ass handed to you or feel the wrath of yellow fists, then make sure you spend a lot of money..On them.

Frylock, Meatwad and [of course] Master Shake want to share their brand of Christmas cheer with some songs such as 'Santa Left A Booger In My Stocking' which is sung with Neko Case, and 'Frosty The Red-Nosed Snowman.' Adorable.

So if you need a good laugh, take a few minutes to listen and maybe you wont feel the urge to mail your relatives to the North Pole.

Wilco Spends The Afternoon 'Trottin' [MUSIC]

11010918690?profile=original

Jeff Tweedy & Co. band, Wilco, stopped by Studio Q in Chicago for an in-studio session where they showcased some tracks from their new album 'The Whole Love.' He explains a lot of the material on this album are the stories of getting caught up in all the tangled misery and beauty of love and how it has the capacity to transform a person for better or worse. Always one to believe in a silver lining, songs like the 12-minute meditation 'One Sunday Morning' are gorgeously bittersweet reminders of such duplicity in regards to love..

Check out the live daytrotter session below. To get the complete performances for free go HERE.

(Re)Mix Monday [MUSIC]

11010918087?profile=original

Nobody likes Mondays. Unless your job lets you have Mondays off, in which case I don't like you...For those of us still recovering from the weekend, hang in there. Only a few more hours until you can throw your feet up on the couch and forogt your woes.

Until then, ignore your bosses with Digitalism who has some new music out on their 'Circles' EP with remixes by Eric Prydz, Jeremy Olander and Moonlight Matters. But it doesnt stop there. Holy Ghost! has a new [very 80's sounding] track out mixed-up by Christian Strobe. Which might give you a seizure if you listen to it while using one.

Groove Armada hits us a free track today remixed by Italians' the Rambla Boys called 'RJ's Theme'. Lastly, a new one from The Opiates, a UK group with a loungey disco-song, 'Reality TV'.

You've all probably seen the movie 'The Grudge' and 'The Matrix'. Both very trippy and creepy and times with hints of our worst nightmares dwelling within the visuals. Well Trent Reznor and Karen O must be  fans, because the music video for 'Immigrant Song' is extra creepy. Its just the kind of explosive, subliminal and apocolyptic imagery that one might be subjected to if being brainwashed by machines. Full of dripping metal, pulsing eyeballs and fire-bombs the video is sure to bring you the brink of madness.

Since it's directed by David Fincher [Fight Club] you know it's gonna be crazy.
