When will the U.S. wake up? 

Yesterday Europe’s health commissioner Tonio Borg said the European Commission would go ahead with a continent-wide plan to severely restrict three of the most commonly-used pesticides over the next two years (with exception to wheat crops), in an effort to protect the health of bees.

Their decision was based on a growing body of research that suggests that bees exposed to pesticides might be harmed -- either by the pesticides' application to corn and soybean seeds, or through the plants' nectar and pollen (neonics are absorbed by the plants' vascular system and contaminate the pollen and nectar). Because much of this research has been conducted in laboratories rather than in the field, pesticide manufacturers have been using that as their basis for countering the significance of the studies.
