Strange alchemy

The moon hangs heavy and

low in the sky

so close I could touch it,

so close I could cry

I'm an alchemist

I can turn shit into gold

But gold is untouchable,

heavy and cold

I want to be light and

I want to be free

I want to be warm and

I want to be me

But I lose myself in

the words on the screen

I turn into pixels and

black-and-white dreams.

Words

Loud flawed words
Dragged and dropped
Blended passes
To miscast spelling

Unfinished misnomers
Foul swear words
Poison talk
Spelt gossip

Snarky rattling
Of dire consequences
For the tear-sodden hearted
Crushed in slow motion

Freeze-framed chillers
Worryworth words
Born out of anxiety
Left out on the tip of tongues

Keywords kept under hats
To seal lips off
Wherever abuse
Takes the lie of the truth

May the unspoken
Become the spoken word
Where consenting silence
Is death foretold

Flyweight

I am a fly,
A lightweight,
Sideliner forever,
Or new counter?

Dumping heavy,
Bearing my weight,
Balancing imbalances,
Unburdening my conscience.

Easily affected,
The slightest skirmish,
Quickly weighs me down,
Still nothing calms me down.

Shut my trap,
Fly idly,
Or strike home,
Get on the raw?

I am a light-traveller,
A fly in the ointment,
A fuss-maker,
A drama queen.

Siren song (eyes everywhere)

I know you've been watching
but don't know how long
and I know you want me to sing my songs--

But first I have to find my voice
and calmly defend the wickedest choice.

Truth is beauty
and I would agree
and I guess I know why this shit happens to me
and beauty is truth
(at least that's what they say)
and I can't see the good
in pushing you away--

But to draw you in is surely to sin
and I don't deserve this anyway.

Piecemeal poem

This isn't really a poem at all, I suppose... just random thoughts collected from other people that begged to be strung together. I know this pain but thankfully haven't felt it for a long time.

______

Tired of living but scared of dying
Nothing left but staying alive
I laugh and smile but even I don't believe myself--
it all sounds hollow.

I don't hate you, I just want you to like me
I don't know what I ever did to you
I never really listened I suppose.

I'm not so good at talking most days but
"Don't try to be interesting, be interested."

Trying to breathe, trying to shout out
but drowned by voices of negativity and despair
Hopeless pressure on my chest and I
just want to break free of the chains

Desperation, hanging on to the edge of a cliff
by a single thin thread
just enough to keep me going

I don't ask for much
just want to be normal
plain as plain can be

Oh wind, if winter comes, can spring be far behind?

For my father

Wish you wouldn't work so much
and though I know just why you do
some day I hope I find a way
to make it up to you.

It's not that I'm ungrateful
or that I have a better way
I just wish we had more time to sit
and talk and laugh and play.
