With her take on The Doors' song "The End" Nico showed how far the soul may wander.
This Tube is an extract from a Live show recorded 8 Miles from my home & produced by a company from 'Leafy Lytham' in Lancashire, where I lived as a lad. It seems so bizarre to me that she should visit such a backwater, at all. It's not even the Preston GuildHall but some seedy bar stage. In 1983 when this Concert was recorded I had just moved to Europe where I had encountered a very real German 'Femme Fatale' and a totally pointless & fruitless relatationship from which I could not get away for nearly a decade. Wierdo!!!'The End' shocked me as a teenager, into relating to the hidden feelings about life I had following the early death of my Mum from Cancer. Some modernists call Nico a Goth. No such label existed back in 1965 when she came to light. She released her second Solo LP 'The End' in 1974. I was 18 years old and well struggling with the dark side.DeathOn July 18, 1988, while on holiday with her son in Ibiza, Spain, Nico had a minor heart attack while riding a bicycle, and hit her head as she fell. A passing taxi driver found her unconscious, and had difficulty getting her admitted to local hospitals. She was incorrectly diagnosed as suffering from exposure, and she died the next day. X-rays later revealed a severe cerebral hemorrhage as the cause of her death.Nico was buried in her mother's plot in Grunewald Forest Cemetery in Berlin. A few friends played a tape of "Mütterlein", a song from Desertshore, at her funeral.LegacyNico has been an influence on many acts. Siouxsie and the Banshees, Patrick Wolf, Bauhaus, Stevie Nicks, Patti Smith, Morrissey, Björk, Coil, Jocelyn Pook, Fabienne Shine (who covered "All Tomorrow's Parties"), Dead Can Dance as well as numerous contemporary goth bands have all cited Nico as a major influence.[Source]: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nico
