My Father By Name

My Father By Name

Jason's going through a "phase". He needs a reason to believe in himself
How many times does the stronghold fall ten-fold to see you need help?
What we've seen we absorb, but what's never there - we want more
So Jason picked up this rough cut, said "Enough." and moved to the door
From a small room decorated with a blank canvas & blank people...blank evil, they pretend..
To be happy He thinks.. "burdensome", he worries one day he'll have the same expression as them
So he leaves, out of that small room, & into a autumn colored lobby and he waits
For his father to come and pick him up, but on the tip of his tongue is this taste
He had trouble in school, to him it all felt subtle and cruel, all he can do is think.
Parents from an Ivy league - they thought "I never failed, why does he?" so they sent him to a shrink
That's what he tastes, he remembers what the psychiatrist said, about everything entwined in his head
"Your a smart kid Jason, you just need help" and he holds up a light color that reminds him of red
That's what Jason says... "Red." "Jason, this color is different then red, you can't call every hue.
The same because they are similar, you have to learn to classify the difference in the two.
As he sits in that dusty old hallway that hasn't been renovated since Elvis was king
He dreams, that he's a super hero, opens his eyes and notices a soda machine
With an old school Coke can with the slogan... "Catch The Wave"
Pulls out 75 cents, inserts it into the vintage robot & watches it fall from it's cave..
He picks up the icy cold, expired, old, can of soda & he notices the red
Has been faded... degraded from time, then it all rushes back to his head
Jason was diagnosed with ADD, so he takes a pill to make him fit in
Parents wishing, for normality, but every time he took it his mind is in prison
Locked into this, lifeless, bodiless thought and all he can visualize
What life is like on the outside, it hurts because it blinds.. he realized
This feeling, I can't be this, he's reeling, he can't believe what he's fed
One small pill, Or how they all will, look at him like he's a dog to be put to bed
They look at him like he's stupid.. Maybe he is.. all that I know
Is that potential is more determination & how far your willing to grow
& Jason wants to be a hero, We give everyone a name and a title.. as if it's a need..
But what if your different? The first cut is the deepest but how long do you bleed?
Just then his father drives up in his new BMW, then they had left
Jason wants to tell him what's on his mind but nothing is said
