she sat there staring

We pulled up to the driveway and parked the car under our home. We sat there for a moment in silence, the car still idling. The air conditioner softly blowing against our faces, as the radio is quietly playing. The cars are passing down the busy street as we sit there in silence. I tell her I'm sorry while she sat there staring. She says nothing. I don't know what to do and put my head down in shame and confusion, trying to find the answer. I turn the car off, and within moments it becomes uncomfortably warm. She sits there staring. Her lips move, but nothing comes. I feel torn between this moment and the world around me. She sits there staring. What will happen next? Where will this lead us? She sits there staring. I say a few things, words to try to ease the pain. They help a little, but in no way heal the wound. This is big, life is getting bigger now. Life is beginning to change, and this is our moment, our crossroad. She sits there staring.
