i stuck my head in the earth
and waited
(what seemed like an eternity)
until my brain cells grew
straight out of my skull
right through my dead hair
and into the black, cold, wet soil.
worms slowly wiggle through my eyes.
my arms and legs spread up to the sky
wavering
faltering
as these very deranged looking branches
grasp for air--
but my feet have forgotten how to breath!
and my skin has forgotten how to absorb nutrients
from the sun, the rain, the soil.
i scream for help, but choke.
suffocate, fall over...and
remember i'm only human.
only a human imagining myself as:
a plant, a vegetable, a root...a seed...the earth.
and i start to realize that
humans are just
upside down plants...
naked animals.
...and yet i wonder...
why.
