Save Coney Island

Remember New Yorkers, Americans, Sympathizers worldwide:Today is the last day to voice your dissent in the fight to save Coney Island from re-development.I have sent the following missive. It seems fitting. I hope you follow. Email this address before 5pm ET 7/11/08: rbelsky@nycedc.comDear Mrs. Belsky,Sirs & Mdms,I am a Brooklyn resident, a New Yorker, an American. I am a student of our past and an admirer of our present. However, I see clearly the mistakes of our fathers in the name of development, of forward momentum, of manifest destiny.Progress and history are not mutually exclusive. An entity that exists in the collective conscious of so many souls, past and present--passed ever toward future souls--has cascading energy, like so much inertia, capable of blowing you over. A shockwave felt for generations. You and your monies will one day be gone. Coney Island will remain. For all of your efforts, it may change, but the fugitive sensation of its past will be the dread image that haunts our future sons and daughters: our living historians. One day we will clamor to rebuild, like Penn Station before it. And on this day your legacy will join the fate (prematurely ushered in by your kind) of our beloved park, our beloved boardwalk, our beloved Brooklyn--damned; the casualties of a gluttonous fold.In the end, Coney Island is lost; you, forgotten. Who does it serve?America needs its past; New York needs Coney Island; Brooklyn, its soul.Leave our park, our pastime, our land alone.Ever yours,Matthew S King[[contact info omitted]]

Is there life after radiohead?

I used to be all right...What happened? Now I see the world through rainbows...My consciousness refuses to perceive the reality...Was the show real?? I'm not sure...
Rain...It was the most fucking perfectly beautiful rain in my life...I raised my hands to it, I laughed, I drank it! Rain down!!!! Come on rain down on me!!!! Clothes were entirely wet...The rain was beating our happy faces, and my wet hair lashed the people's faces ...I thought I would lose my mind because of this total univesal sound-visual beauty everywhere around me....In Rainbows-songs were perfomed so filigree, the sound was crystal-clear....
It's too strong, too wonderful to be real...
Thanks to Radiohead for every single thing they do. We need it...

New experiment...

ah humm well i want to do something out of this greate space to work that Radiohead kindly gave to me.. so i was thinking , why not aside from whine about my existance also translate important news from mexico and how it will affect the global comunity?it might be a good idea it might be a bad but i hope to get some feedback on this.. please feel free to post any coments here on my blog or at the main page of this waste central.Soooo time to start , this week in mexico we keep debating if we should let external invest go to our national oil company , here in mexico for thouse that hear it for the first time , we got one company , owned by our goverment and in consecuence by all the mexican people.now if this happen and we allow external inversion on our oil company we face the problem that monsters like Exxon , Chevron and so on eventualy take over... the first step would be investing on refining technologies but then they would slowly as the did on another countrys taking over our the oil magnament....how this affect the global comunity? well its quite simple as my friend Lee mentioned on my last blog , this might be part of something bigger , an Oil speculation and a price raise on everything oil derivated , why? so they can make all the money they can and leave before Oil is sustituded with a more eco friendly technology wich i hope happens soon enough for us to not be drowning in polution because Oil is also used to build plastic , if we stop using it soon we will find our planet to be healthier for the generations to come.now as its been reported in several places in the world , gas prices are going Sky rocket this is increasing the cost of basics such as food who lately has been really afected price wise .. Rice who also is on the increase in another countrys went 50% more expensive this week in my country , also Cooking oil price was increased in a 50%.this is not the end we will see the prices go up and up the rest of this year.. aperently this slightly benefits fast food companies because the 2 dollar meals are cheaper than a Kilo of Rice..sad but true..lastly not in my country but in argentina the ice is melting.. the ice keeps melting people.. and what are we doing ?-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------now time to whine about my life!!!nah not much to whine about , this time i feel like im stuck between work and the routine.. Funny cause when i was a child i remember i told my father that , after watching sean conery on a bond movie , i wanted to be part of the MI6 and be a 00 , he laughed so bad that every time he tells this history to relatives or my friends he still chuckles..so i went and bought all the bond books , read them and then in one of them wich the title i dont remember its mentioned that you have to be british to be part of the MI6 , i was torn at the time hahaha.this flashback thanks to a video about the new bond movie based videogame reminded me sort of.. that sometimes we aim in life to the wrong side till we hit the hit a wall called reality..i mean how many times we wanted to be movie stars? rock stars? famous writters? poets.. actors you name it.. to realize that we lack the natural talent that this professions may require and we invest time and time till we realize is not going to happen , fun cause time is the least that we got in this path..now with this im not triying to say that we all should aim for the simple life.. no , what im triying to say is that never ever let anyone tell you that you cant do something , and if you want to be or do , then aim for being the best cause only pushing so hard and fighting every day you see a reward at the end of the rainbow..im also mentioning this cause it can be apply to our sentimental life.. sometiemes we fall in love with the wrong person and im writting all this cause this week im meeting with my ex at a convention , i work for the company hosting and she works for the cathering service , sort of fun cause we will meet in out respective work breakes..she is by far the woman that i had love the most in my life , sadly i dont love her anymore , and i say sadly cause she is a wonderful person when she wants to be.. i will meet her in the sport of restore our friendship but i don't thing is going anywhere else... at least i wont want it.i spent 3 years of my life and if i wouldve know that thouse would go to waste cause she would decide to leave me for her lover well most of you might think that it wasnt even worth a try.. but i also hold a few of my most precious memories with her so its all worth , the bottom line of this entry is to let you know that is always worth something , the pain, the solitude , the anger hell even the tears in everyone's life are always worth it.. in some cases they help us to grow stronger...Peace!

Kolhidato D.SklyarIn the eyewitness`diary: "New war will begin next day".And the concordant dog slowly nods his master`s approval,Tries to look into master`s eyes and to see there somethingWhat can`t ever be seen in the river or in the tree. And the war isn't dreadful for trees: if the oaks are burn,Either box-tree or beech will appear on ashes`place.War is simply a reason of useless renewal for trees.Only craving to be more complete in the ground`s eyes -Eyes of land, of a transient home of the every seed. And the dog only looks at the river, for all the yearWhen he saw something falling from other beach -It wasn`t a snow: the snow is quite misplacedFor the subtropics. Sky is tired to death becauseOf the plane which is trying to surmount the sound barrier. And the mica of sky, which is much more dead than alive,Is preparing to shrink and to dress all the place with dusk -For no-seeing the fallen stones, unwilling to live. And the dog only wimpers: he saw the pupil of eye,Black and heavy - it must belong to the distant foe.And the sea, which was heating up all this day along,Only sparkles like the golden fleece, which Jason had lost. 30/ Kid A - Kid A - 2000The beginning of this song sounds like a wind-up music box for an infant. When the next part comes in, it makes me think of a long and vast frozen tundra. It's an interesting combination. But considering the title of the song, the album it's on, the overall theme of the album, and the artwork supplied with the album, it fits PERFECTLY. One aspect of this song that I just love is how Thom's voice was recorded. Apparently, they directed Thom's vocals through Jonny Greenwood's ondes martenot (which is basically the father of the theremin, the main difference being the ondes is played using keys and a finger-ring connected to a string, controlling the pitch). Jonny played the notes that Thom was singing while he was singing them, so you get these vocals that are just... otherworldly. It's amazing. One of my favorite lines is from this song. "We've got heads on sticks. You've got ventriloquists."29/ Street Spirit (Fade Out) - The Bends - 1995This song doesn't really help the cliche image of the band being depressed and gloomy musicians. But you can't deny the power of the lyrics, the beautiful vocals, and the masterful guitar work on this song. When the third guitar comes in with supplemental notes in the third verse, the song takes on a beauty that I can't begin to describe. Proper drumming comes in shortly after but it doesn't clutter the song. The last line of the song is sung and everything just ties together. "Immerse your soul in love."28/ I Might Be Wrong - Amnesiac - 2001Ohhhhh wow, how I love the guitar in this song. This is close to my favorite guitar riff that Radiohead have ever come up with. It's extremely simple without really copying anyone else. It's one of the many, many elements in this song that make me imagine a hot, dry desert and a desperado riding a horse, galloping off into the sunset. I love the exra crunch in the guitar in the live version :)27/ Climbing Up The Walls - OK Computer - 1997This is another Radiohead song that goes down as one of their creepiest. The soundscape created in the opening moments is more sinister than any other song I've heard. From the reverbing drums to the sound effects that were birthed in an insane asylum, this song is the song for a man foaming at the mouth in a straightjacket. When the song reaches its climax, even more sound effects and guitars have been added and they burst into an ondes martenot solo that just breaks any hopes that the song would take a turn for the sane. By the time Thom starts singing again, his voice has turned to a frantic yell that eventually yields a bloodcurdling scream, ripping the song at its seams. The song then dies a slow death of dissonance and static. Incredible.26/ Life In A Glass House - Amnesiac - 2001This song sounds like a 1920s jazz piece conducted and sung by a drunken man. It's a complete 180 degree turn from most of the material on Amnesiac but it fits so well... I'm still not sure how. The chorus of this song is one of my favorite Radiohead moments. The horn stab just before Thom starts singing is just amazing... everything just bursts into color from the clumsy, black and white verse. "Well of course I'd like to sit around and chat! Well of course I'd like to stay and chew the fat!" Maybe the colored atmosphere will continue? "But someone's listening in..." Nope... back to the verse. Don't get me wrong though. I absolutely love the verse. It's just interesting how the verse and chorus are similar... but very very different from each other. The aforementioned happens once more but it continues for a while longer. "Only, only only, only!!!" Thom yells, over impovised brass instruments. "...Someone's listening in..." Amazing how Radiohead could do a song like this so well.25/ Just - The Bends - 1995One of the most insanely awesome amazing rock songs of the nineties. I don't care what any of you think, this song is better than 90% of the rock songs that came out during that decade. I was blessed to be able to experience Radiohead but the experience was made 10x better by the inclusion of a handful of songs I've always wanted to see live. This is one of them.24/ Exit Music (For A Film) - OK Computer - 1997This song is based on the romance between Romeo and Juliet. It's a great example of Thom's low register and perfect example of the masterfully crafted climaxes that riddle OK Computer.23/ Lucky - OK Computer - 1997This is another song that was not originally written for inclusion on OK Computer. It was originally written for the HELP charity album. Again, it was so good, it just had to be included on the album. The guitar riff during the chorus is another of my favorites from this band. This song is also one of my favorites to play on guitar and sing.22/ Talk Show Host - Street Spirit (Fade Out) CD1 - 1996I'm just gonna have to say that I consider this the best b-side ever put out by Radiohead... I still can't believe that I heard this song in person. Being performed by Radiohead. From the guitars... to the... there's too much to be said about this song that's already been said. It's a masterpiece. It's very very hard to place this song on the list in a position that seems right for it. It could arguably be much, much higher but once you get to about this area on the list... it's very very hard to decide. This is one of the best songs of all time. How could you not love the following lines: "You want me? Fucking well come and find me. I'll be waiting with a gun and a pack of sandwiches."21/ My Iron Lung - The Bends - 1995The opening riff in this song is, I believe, one of the most memorable of the past 50 years. That's just me, of course, but this song is just... such a perfect rock song. And then the kick-in-the-mouth in the middle of the song... Wow. This was Radiohead's answer to "Creep." "This is our new song. Just like the last one. A total waste of time. My iron lung." What an answer!PART 4 SOON

Hi,

would like to share my experience from todays concert in Berlin

What they did at the soundcheck...in chronological order (I was there from 3pm, so I missed something, I guess)
- Phil did solo drumming of Super Collider
- they jammed a Rollin Stones song (can't find which one...sorry...hope I can add it later)
- Where I End and You Begin (1. first half of the song, 2. full song, 3. last part of the song)
- Super Collider (fullband 2 times)
- Bangers n Mash (1. jam, 2nd and 3rd complete song)
- Drumbeat (couldn't figure out if it was something actually or just a rhythm)
- Thom vocals (maybe teasing something...) + EIIRP (2 times)
- some guitar from Ed
- piano and organ - soundcheck
- a tease on organ which sounds exactly like the first notes in the Burn the Witch teaser from 2006 (right before Thom says "OK, Burn the witch will one day....")

I couldn't hear much vocals (too silent) but Thom actually sang on EIIRP and SC.

Some words on SuperCollider, for whom it may concern....
It is different, as the piano isn't there anymore (or was too silent), but the pianomelody was played by a guitar instead (Jonny maybe). Additionally some effectstuff had been added (Ed ?). Drumming is rhythmwise exactly like the already known pianoversion of Super Collider. In the end it still sounds well underdeveloped ("some are sketchy....some of them are very sketchy..." wink.gif ) so I can understand that they don't play this version live, but it sounds definately promising..... biggrin.gif

Some words on Thom vocals (maybe teasing), he did the same thing twice in soundcheck and he did it in the actual set before EIIRP also, so it could be a hint for something (otherwise he'd done something different.....or is just teasing us wink.gif )

Some words on a tease on organ...
well, I heard the teaser on Wons site dozens of times so I know exactly every note of it, so I immediately recognized the notes from the tease.....I don't think it's BTW as the no chords had been played after that, only the first notes of the first BTW-tease....maybe it's nothing... wink.gif

Edit: Honky Tonk Woman from Rolling Stones (if I found the right name of the song)
I first though I missed their soundcheck when I heard this cover but waited until they played WIEAYB smile.gif )

My concert review:

I was pretty surprised seeing Modeselektor as support (hadn't informed myself with who plays their support actually), who played a remix of Skip Divided and two Björk remixes. Right before the latter Björk remix, Thom came up from backstage to watch 'em play live from side of stage (hidden behind equipment, but well....we know him too good so he cannot hide tongue.gif wink.gif )

The actual concert was great, the band was in such a great mood, they all (except Phil, for obvious reasons)were jumping over the stage and grinning and smiling and playing with the audience (never had seen sucha performance from them, beside From The Basement ^^ )

They started with 15th Step where the crowd finally managed the "YEAH !" part smile.gif
After the next song Airbag it started to rain, which Thom replied to with "Sorry for the rain, but it is a Radiohead concert... ^^"
They played nearly all IR, just missing Faust Arp, and also played Bangers'n'Mash, where some effect from Jonny still made some sound and Thom negging into Jonnys direction keeping his drumsticks in the air like waiting to finally start the song wink.gif

Other songs they played included My Iron Lung (Thom mentioned that the last time they where here (meaning 9/11), they played it), Paranoid Android, No Surprises, National Anthem (the radio excerpt telling something (translated) like "in summer months, the audience is bigger than else", Everything in it's right place, Idioteque, Dollars and Cents, You And Whose Army (grinning into the crowd who responded with loud cheering), Cymbal Rush (two false starts, as Thoms earplugs were slipping out of his ears and he made the timing wrong telling someone shouting from the audience to come up and doing it themselves wink.gif ) and finally Street Spirit.

As I said before, the band was in a great mood, which made No Surprises and My Iron Lung a little bit pointless, as obviously the band isn't "depressed" at all to play those old songs from a more personally difficult era....so they lacked a little because of that....on the other hand...have you ever seen Ed and Colin jumping around on stage because they f**ing can't keep still smile.gif

And Jonnys guitarplaying brilliant and energetic as always...

It was such a positived energised concert and I really enjoyed every minute of it smile.gif

Oh...and for all the singing fans.....please learn the lyrics and the songs first before singing, as the climax of a song mostly comes AFTER the 2nd Verse.....just a suggestion wink.gif

I love that concert....I love that band.....and hope I can do for ever and ever smile.gif

Cheers

Edit: some mistakes corrected (was in WOHOOO-mode yesterday and forgot some of my english classes wink.gif )

Edit: after 12 years, I can finally add, that it's Honky Tonk Woman, what they played in soundcheck as Stones-song.

Happy thoughts

I'm fed up with people in denial.Laughing and laughing and laughing because I KNOW what I'm talking about, and they believe ignorance & the media over what I say. When I pinpoint France's illogical politics over nuclear strategy WITH FUCKING ARGUMENTS, they agree, and that's it. 'Yeah, you're right. So...what ?' So fucking what ? In three years' time you'll be fucking starving, idiot ! I'm trying to fucking warn you !I prefer ranting alone and being paranoid over the collapse of our society rather than watching fucking TV and being able to follow their conversation about last night's new TV show premiere. I'll just play Streets of Rage 3 tonight, it's an easy & relaxing game, great for nerves. Oh, and, yeah, tonight, the Wii's undergoing surgery. Hehehe...Maybe I just don't like being made fun of.Maybe we'll see next year who is where and how. Maybe next year there won't anyone left. How does it go again ?"There's no time to cryHappy, happy" ?
