Offset your carbon footprint - via Carbonfund.org

Hi everyone!

So with 2014 knocking on the door, I am going through my end of the year donations and also, offsetting the carbon footprint of my goddamn travel for 2013 and 2012, because I spaced out last year!

I use http://www.carbonfund.org/individuals

it's pretty awesome - there are nice calculators on the site where you can specify your train, plane or car travel and it calculates the CO2 emissions and the $$ amounts it takes to offset it. Well, the best thing to do is NOT TO TRAVEL at all - but since that is not realistic - this is the least I can do....

In my case, 2012 was BAD - Radiohead tour contributed a little, but overall - 4 trips to Europe, 2 trips to the West Coast, 2 to Texas, 2 to FL - that's pretty ridiculous. I was much better behaved in 2013 :-)

ANyways - I encourage you guys to use their little calculator and offset the flights. - they are the worst. You can specify the three main way of how you want the money to be spent: alternative energy, energy efficiency - poke around their site.

And HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

OFFsetting your CARBON FOOTPRINT

hi all - so this is the time of year when we reflect back... And I do 'reflecting' by going through my calendar and logging in all my flights into http://www.carbonfund.org/ - and more specifically into this: http://www.carbonfund.org/Calculators#Home

You can specify all flights, mark the box that says 'round trip' (if applies) and the box that says 'include radiative forcing' - and it will give you a dollar amount. You can do the same with car/bus/train travel, utilities etc....  I did all of it, and I have to say, relative to my flights - I have basically no footprint. I offset the flights, I'd rather not fly at all, but I cannot avoid it. So at least offsetting it is better than not. And it is tax-deductible for those of you who care. try it, it will make you feel just a little .. greener, and, importantly, it will hopefully make a difference. You can specify what you want to be done with these $$. Those of you who already bought various Radiohead tickets that involves traveling a significant distance - I recommend you consider it  ;-)  It's not that much actually - for example, a roundtrip between East Coast US and Europe run around $35. New York to Toronto is less than $4 if you can believe it. New York to Miami is about $11.
