It's a bit disgusting

I'm really new to waste central but I've been a member of w.a.s.t.e. for a long time. I find it highly disturbing that people are being so stingy with details on the presale. This hasn't affected me personally yet because they haven't released any dates in my area so far but I have to say isn't this supposed to be a COMMUNITY?! Aren't we all here because we love this band? Shouldn't we help each other out? I understand the fears of not getting tickets and the site crashing but as an earlier post stated we are a very small community and not all of us are going to be trying for the same show tickets.

Honestly this selfishness has left a bad taste in my mouth for fellow Radiohead fans. When and if I am able to go to a show I'll find myself looking around wondering to myself which one of these people is a selfish bastard who wouldn't give out information to their fellow die hard fans, especially the first timers. It's not anyone's fault for not knowing if they haven't had a chance to go. I've never gone because I've never before been in a financial situation where I could afford the tickets and the one time I got my hands on some I had to sell them because one of my best friends was killed in a car crash that week.

If you know how to get the presale tickets and are holding that knowledge to yourself then I hope you're able to look at yourself in the mirror and sleep soundly knowing that you could've helped a fellow comrade and instead chose to be selfish and only think of yourself.

This is a perfect example of whats wrong with society today, no one tries to help each other out, people only look out for number one. Way to go, I'm sure the band would be very proud of you.

Dot Connectors

I was very sad to hear the news of Adam Yauch's death yesterday.
We looked up to the Beastie Boys a lot when we were starting out and how they maintained artistic control making wicked records but still were on a major label, and the Tibetan Freedom Concerts they organized had a very big influence on me personally and the way Adam conducted himself and dealt with it all impressed me a lot. He was a mellow and v smart guy. May he rest in peace.

On another note check this out> people connecting the dots of our weird weather patterns, though the climate change deniers still frantically shout their voice is getting quieter.

Toronto tragedy: follow-up - The Scott Johnson Fund

August 6th update!!!

Hi Everybody! Just to re-cap - we have been in touch with Radiohead management and learned that Scott Johnson's family decided to set up Scott Johnson Bursary for Young Musicians. It took quite sometime for them to get the website in place but it finally happened. We are in the process of transferring the funds we have raised thus far to this new fund: as per Scott's family, the idea is that this will be THE ONLY fund, so we are following their wishes:

http://scottjohnsonbursary.com/

Dear friends of Scott,

It has been heart-warming to receive the kind wishes from you all.

We have had many requests for donations in place of flowers and have set up an account that will be the Scott Johnson Bursary for Young Musicians. This will be managed by his friends locally as a fund primarily in Rotherham Schools.

It was not our intention to create this nor wish his friends to spend money that none of us can afford in these difficult times. We hoped that it would be modest but already some companies and teachers want to offer products and services that will benefit these musicians.

Frankly we cannot equate to the financial aspects but if it helps anyone to contribute in this way the account is established to ensure that no other fund is created in error. It may take a while, but we will keep you informed on how the money is spent in due course.

Thank you all,

Ken and Sue Johnson

If you have not donated yet - please follow the link above. If you have - rest assured that we are working with the family and Radiohead management to transfer the moneys. THANK YOU so much for your generous support.

June 26 update!!

Hi guys - just to let you all know, we have been in touch with Radiohead management; there will be a person from Scott's family who we will work with to transfer the funds that we raised; it will happen a bit later once more pressing and ...sad events (funeral and all...) get sorted out. So if you have not donated yet, and were considering it - there is still time to do it. And thank you so much again!!

 UPDATE!!!

we migrated to a much more user friendly site as listed below - and the international donations are supposed to be working smoothly now!! All donations received through the earlier link will be combined with into a GRAND total.

thanks for your patience while we were troubleshooting their web interface!

----------------------

As most of you guys heard, a terrible accident happened yesterday in Toronto Downsview park, about 1 hr before doors opened: the stage collapsed, and with it, it took the life of one of the Radiohead crew members. Scott Johnson, the drums tech, was instantly killed in the accident.

http://radiohead.com/deadairspace/120617/Scott

For those of us, fans, who have been traveling to multiple gigs, the death of the RH crew member is something that we feel very strongly about. We would like to do something to express our feelings to Scott's family, to the band, because we are all connected...
Maria, who many of you know from spending hours in queues, spearheaded this FUND - to raise money for Scott's family or whichever charity they would choose. So here it is:

https://rally.org/thescottjohnsonmemorialfund

If you'd like to donate anything - please go ahead.

And thank you all.

inez

I JUST realized I took a  picture of Scott in Camden - 3 days before this crazy accident!!! please click on the image if you'd like to see a it in high resolution. How incredibly odd.....

HELP with WASTE presale tickets

So I signed up for the official WASTE site more than 15+ years ago. However, it's been a while since I used the site for buying tickets. I got the email with a link for the presale. Is that all I need (no pun intended) ?Or do you need some sort of credentials like a user name/password? I saw that to buy merchandise you need some sort of account. Is this the same for pre-sale tickets? Because I can't find a way of opening an account without buying something. If anyone has any knowledge of how pre-sales work, please respond. Tickets go on sale tomorrow!

Flea, however, took advantage of the Chili Peppers’ two-year break after Stadium Arcadium, working on other artists’ tours and records and cutting solo material at his own studio in the Silverlake area of L.A. In 2010, he played bass in Radiohead singer Thom Yorke’s offshoot band Atoms for Peace, doing shows and playing on a forthcoming studio album.

Radiohead: intense and serious !!!

http://www.comedy.co.uk/live/circuit_training/adam_buxton_interview/

Radiohead have a reputation for being quite an intense and serious bunch but people don't realise exactly how intense they are

I know you're friendly with Radiohead but were you a bit nervous about directing their video [for the song Jigsaw Falling into Place]? Can you tell us a bit about their working methods?

Radiohead have a reputation for being quite an intense and serious bunch but people don't realise exactly how intense they are. On the occasions that Garth [Jennings] and I have worked with them in their studio outside Oxford, the intensity was so intense that bulbs would often blow spontaneously and toast would get burned after only a few seconds in the toaster.

Here's what you tend to see in the studio: Jonny and Colin Greenwood write heartbreaking poetry and talk about third-world debt all the time. Ed O'Brien is so obsessed by Nietzsche that he now only speaks German and wears what looks like a small Tim Burgess wig on his upper lip as a tribute to his unhappy philosopher hero.

Phil Selway is in the process of tattooing the whole of the Koran all over his body as a statement about Islamophobia (in public he covers the tattoos with make-up so as not to offend Muslims). It's a project that has already taken years and will take many more to complete and he is in constant pain, which is evident in his face when he's drumming.

Thom just sit on a corner crying and ranting about climate change. He is undoubtedly the most intense in the band but he's not averse to the occasional bit of clowning. Once, when he knew we were watching, he pretended to put a plastic water bottle in the non-recycling bin! We laughed and laughed then he started crying again so we stopped laughing and things went back to being very tense.

Were you surprised how beloved your 6music show became? What's the oddest place you've heard a 'Stephen', and what's the plan now for Adam and Joe?

I once got 'Stephened' from an adjoining toilet cubicle in an airport. I never saw the guy. I felt as though I was involved in some very pathetic form of cottaging.

As far as Joe and I are concerned I've no idea. We discovered in the early noughties that we weren't very good at forging a proper career together. We both prefer doing a wide variety of stuff rather than just being in a room for months working on one thing as a duo so that kind of narrows down our options for collaboration! The radio shows presented a great way for us to just be friends and ponce about again which we hadn't properly done for years but now our professional lives are so distinct it's becoming harder and harder to get together, which is a shame.

I miss doing the 6 Music very much and we'll certainly be doing the odd one-off in the next few months but as far as another proper long run goes, I dunno. Hope so. I think it's the thing I've loved doing most with Joe over the years and the fact that listeners seem to have taken it to their hearts is the icing on the cherry on the cake balanced on the attractive naked ladyman.

Your TV and film CV is impressive but do you feel you've found the right outlet for your own stuff yet? Any exciting new projects in the pipeline?

One day I may focus on something more substantial but for the time being I'm having fun tooling about on the internet, doing BUG and dreaming my dreamy dreams. There's always pilots and schemes bubbling away but I've learned not to talk them up as they often come to nothing. I've got so many ideas for things I'd love to do that I think would be great, the trick is to actually do them. Some people master that trick in their teens, I'm hoping to get to grips with it in my fifties

http://radiohead.mx/noticias/adam-buxton-describe-como-es-trabajar-con-radiohead/

Japan

for a while I have felt the need to write something for our fans, I am very fond of japan and feel awful seeing what has happened since the earthquake and tsunami...

my friends in Tokyo tell me there are now big powercuts and though the city is still functioning there is a lot of re-evaluating going on. Tokyo the temple to light and power is something different now.

that such a fast paced hyperkinetic place can be brought to it's knees is shocking even before the worries over radiation from the reactors.

it is hard to imagine how it must feel

to have witnessed such devastation by mother nature and so many dead .. and. I think a lot about the rest of japan and how it will rebuild itself. how much of a struggle and a leap of faith the Japanese will have to make.

I'm told that in the rest of japan life is carrying on almost normally but rebuilding what has been lost is going to be a massive job.

I hope that the Japanese people we have met over the years are not freaking out, and I like to think the way japan comes out of this will be an inspiration to us all.

The Dignity Revolution

What have twitter and facebook ever done for us?

Obviously, keeping in touch with everyone but I have to say I have become increasingly excited over the last 3 months about the possibilities of this form of communication.Yes I am very slow out of the blocks. It's in the arena of public protest that it seems twitter and facebook are increasingly the means by which popular movements throughout the world are able to come together and mobilise.

I have been so moved by the peaceful Jasmine revolution in Tunisia; The anti-Government demonstrations centred on Tahrir Square in Cairo.. Social networking has helped facilitate the freedom to assemble peacefully and express oneself. Equally in Britain it seems to be having a similar effect in helping essential protests being organised by students and groups such as UK Uncut against the Government's ill thought out cuts ... Well done those people!
