RAdiohead (207)

Hey there, to whomever reads this. I´m really angry right now.

I´ve been waiting a lifetime to see Radiohead and I always told myself when the moment came I´d do it right.

When the venue was changed for this concert I was told my ticket could be exchanged for a Front Standing Ticket or I could have a refund instead. Given that I was offered the Front Standing Ticket I decided to go for it instead of the refund. However, if I had known the possibility existed of getting a seated ticket by selecting this option, I WOULD HAVE ASKED FOR A REFUND. I´ve been in the Cricket Ground before in Manchester and being seated is the worst possible sound and concert experience I´ve had in my life.

But this wasn´t said to me. I am so frustrated and so angry. Now I can´t even resell my ticket at face value, get a refund, or see the concert the way I wanted to see it.

I am so sad, frustrated, and angry. I have no where to go and nothing I can do. Bought my train tickets which no one will refund either.  Man, it´s just a matter of making the front area slightly bigger in order to fit the 40/50 of us that have the same scenario where we were supposed to get Front Standing but instead we´re now seated (Eventim mentioned I was one of the very few that had to be seated...) . Below is a screenshot of the email where I´m offered a refund or the replacement ticket. I was promised one thing and given another one, in any place in the world that is unfair.

Please help somebody? Is anybody in the same boat as me?

Dear Radiohead band,

I live in Mexico, in a small town called La Paz, very near from Los Cabos, but very different of it. Well, last Saturday on April 22th, five good local musicians presented a tribute to Radiohead. 20 months ago, this project united them just because they wanted to study and play your music, the favorite music for this five. Well, it was a great night, was the first time in the city that we watched a show like this.

I’ve been in your concerts in Mexico City, on 2009 and last year. I can tell you that I felt the same vibe, feeling and emotions in the tribute last saturday. Radiohead’s heart was here that night and it felt so great, even some people who didn’t know about your music, they enjoyed that moment a lot. (You know, like moms, dads and grandparents).

I learned something about that night: your music is beyond yourselfs, is not Thom, Colin, Jonnhy, Ed Phil… it’s Radiohead, and Radiohead can be anywhere, no matter what. So, thank you so much for inspire people, for inspire us. In addition to the concert, this tribute event inspired different local artists to create graphics, videos, take pictures, write about it, etcetera… all around your music, celebrate it, honor it.

We love your music, so much.

I Hope you can watch and listen what we lived that night, in a small theater, of a small town in Mexico… very far far away from the big city, but close to the sea.

Edward Hopper, Radiohead, Loneliness is happiness

11011017269?profile=original

In visual arts, lots and lots of artists, especially in the movements of romanticism and Realism, have tried to depict loneliness and it's effects on normal human beings:

Mostly you see desperate and tortured faces painted on canvases, as if this condition is hopeless and lackluster, but one painter is special for me and that's EDWARD HOPPER. Because he does not depict loneliness or sense of depression as this inevitable  destructive force that cripples us all, like Goya did back in his days, or some realists did in their works. I think Hopper shows us, that loneliness and overall condition of unhappiness is a choice of ours. He has a lot of paintings, where  there is a character placed in a building, surrounded by huge windows frames. His characters look completely drained, but in all of those paintings, the window frames are not covered, they don't even have glass put in them. As if there is an escape, but the character does not really want to save him/herself. He/she does not want to be happy in the long term.

Slavoj Zizek, modern philosopher has the same view about happiness. in one of his videos, he brings an analogy of a married man, with a nice circle of friends, great job and overall good life, has a mistress. This man really loves the woman he has affair with and wishes that his wife leaves him. And one day, dreams come true... He gets a divorce and goes on to live with his mistress, but eventually the man realizes that the love for his mistress faded away. This "love" only made sense when he had a wife.

So, should we always be in pursuit of happiness or dreams, if we'll still end up lonely?.. I think the answer is yes, however futile everything might seem... Loneliness is not something one should fear... It is something, that must be embraced.

There is a painting by Hopper called; Room in New York. A man reads the newspaper and a woman sits across the room, playing notes on the piano. For some, this might seem as a very pessimistic canvas, but for me it is full of hope. Yes, both the man and woman are lonely, alienated, isolated from each other. But they both have each other, so they can share their pain. Pain of loneliness... The most ancient curse of mankind.

How is your weekend?

I feel too old for festivals.

But then I'm too big a Radiohead fan, and not without complaining I bought a ticket for Lollapallooza Berlin, because I was not able to get any to see them in London. I'm from Brazil and I've just moved to London. I never thought that being here actually made it harder for you to get into concerts.

And then after living for about 6 months in what for my standards is absolutely freezing weather, I was craving the heat of the continent. And Berlin did not disappoint me. This was my second time there and this time I wanted a light-hearted visit, not war museums and educational Wall tours. So we stayed in a residential neighborhood, not the touristy areas, full of cafes and bars. It was hot and sunny. There was music in the air. We felt like if we wandered enough we would reach Copacabana beach. What a good vibe.

And then we went to see FC Union Berlin play football on Saturday, in a 4x0 match against the visiting team. Still not over the World Cup 7x1 Brazil fiasco, but it felt great to be in a stadium where people love football just that much. What a cool match. What great fans both teams had.

We spent the rest of the day wandering the town, tasting its tastes and walking its walks. It was love at second sight.

On Sunday, we ate some dust at the beautiful Treptower park to arrive at the main stage of Lolla, where we enjoyed the sight of young people dancing to some interesting new music throughout the afternoon. I was still feeling a little bit misplaced, but not for too long.

Festival goers in Germany are much more laid back then Radiohead die-hard fans in Brazil, so we were able to find a spot stuck to the rail to watch the show. Then more people my age started to pop up, some of them bringing their kids. When I saw the band in Sao Paulo back in 2009, I wasn't able to see much of what was going on at the stage, so to see Jonny, Tom and Ed all aligned in front of me was really a present from the gods. The music as I felt on my first time sounds even more beautiful live. I could go to this concert every night of my life.

Then Thom asked "how is your weekend?", it felt like a personal message, a wake-up call.

I was dragged all the way to Berlin, but in the end it was such a magic weekend.

You’re right, Thom. I have to get out more. I’m not that old. Thank you.

[Portuguese] Radiohead e eu

The Witch”, “Identikit”, “Decks Dark”, “The Numbers”, “True Love Waits”.

Eu me lembro a primeira vez que ouvi Radiohead. Tinha uns 14 anos, estava deitada no sofá da sala, com as luzes apagadas, ouvindo a Rádio Cidade. E tocou “Creep”. A outra metade falou fundo.

Eu tinha 14, hoje tenho 31. E naquela voz distorcida que ele fala no final, alguns pescaram que, ao contrário, ele pode estar falando “half of my life” ou “I’ve found my love”.

Hi,

i am in the search of some weird fishes to go to Primavera festival. I got my ticket for the whole festival but any of my mates had the chance to get one :(

but then i thought what a great opportunity to meet some other weird fishes like me and share this moment.

Now, you are probably asking yourself who am i?

My name is Maria Millan and i am a Londoner. I am a photographer and filmmaker. I am originally from Venezuela and moved to London 5 years ago. People say i am funny, easy going, chill and over all i have a good vive and a solution minded person.

I am a music & film lover. I love traveling, languages, coffee, cake, tea, DIY, Aliens, the smell of wet grass, the sunrise, the sunset, the moon... and yeah, of course, i am a night owl.

Beside Radiohead, i love David Bowie, Talking Heads, Joy Division, LCD SoundSystem, Tame Impala, Caribou, Floating Points, The Doors, The Strokes, etc etc etc.

I am the perfect girl to go on a festival with, plus i speak spanish. I have a friend in BCN where i'll stay but he has to work so hopefully i find some great Radiohead's lovers.

Me and my mate love this album dearly. When we started writing our own stuff and doing a little more than covers in pubs (Jigsaw falling into place was a fav), we kept coming back to this record to try and understand how we should mix things like drums etc. It was all recorded in my mates dining room on a rather slow PC. Lots of fun though.
