Protest on in front of a Chevron station on the corner of 9th and Howard in San Francisco on the first day of the court case Bowoto v. Chevron, the first of its kind on US soil. The case was brought by Nigerians against Chevron's subsidiary in Nigeria, but a US judge ruled it valid to sue the parent company. Chevron funded helicopters and men to put down a peaceful protest in a violent way, and this is the first case in which an oil company might be told to pay for its actions. The trial is going on til 12/5 at 450 Golden Gate, if you want to observe and support the Nigerians. It is open to the public. There will likely be another demonstration the day the case ends. You can read about the case at The Center For Constitutional Rights:http://ccrjustice.org/ourcases/current-cases/bowoto-v.-chevron...and follow progress on the Justice in Nigeria Now blog here:http://justiceinnigeria.wordpress.com
