Radiohead (207)

Yes folks, this is the news we all await for and it is now a reality. Be excited... Be very excited.

Best news ever!!... [Via--Ateaseweb.com]There’s been a lot of speculation on Radiohead’s next album. Would it ever be recorded? Or would be just get digital tracks, EP’s or whatever made the press. Ed O’Brien confirmed that a new Radiohead album (yes, album) is in the making. It was the interview in The Believer that kick-started a lot of rumours on Radiohead’s future. Thom Yorke told the magazine: “None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again.(…) But we’ve all said that we can’t possibly dive into that again. It’ll kill us.” The news hit the press worldwide.Radiohead have spent this Summer in the studio, releasing tracks online like ‘Harry Patch (In Memory Of)’ and ‘These Are My Twisted Words’. This sort of seemed like they were serious about not releasing albums in the future. But guitarist Ed O’Brien has confirmed that the band is in fact interested in recording more albums and the follow-up to ‘In Rainbows’ is actually in the making.Ed O’Brien told NME that with sessions planned this winter the band would “definitely” be releasing a full album physically next year. “We were misquoted,” claimed O’Brien of Yorke’s comments, loudly adding, “WE WILL BE MAKING AN ALBUM!” Although he said the band hadn’t decided how it would be released, he said the album would come out on vinyl and CD whether it first arrived as a download or not.“We love the artwork; that’s really important, the physicality,” he explanied. “And we all like vinyl. That’s not going to go away. I still like CDs as well. I got the Speech Debelle CD the other day – I nearly downloaded it from iTunes but I thought, ‘No. I want the physical thing.’”O’Brien wouldn’t be drawn on specific tracks, but suggested that recent free download ‘There Are My Twisted Words’ was not a marker for the album. On releasing ‘These Are My Twisted Words’ online he said: “It’s a kind of one-off. It could have been a darker side of ‘In Rainbows’ – it’s got that autumnal vibe, we’re leaving the summer and going into the darkness.”He added that with Radiohead set to reconvene in their Oxfordshire studio this winter, the season might similarly affect the new songs. “Typical Radiohead,” he laughed. “We’re going into the studio in winter. It’s always miserable! Are we at the whim of the seasons? We are! When you’re in a studio in the countryside, the music you make is definitely affected by what season it is.”

"Update: A full video of the performance has surfaced. Scroll down…Earlier today, Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke took to Southwold, England’s Latitude Festival for his first solo performance since the release of The Eraser in 2006. Needless to say, it was already a special occasion before the English musician totally upped the ante by debuting a brand new song.Yes, among the 12 songs played during his Sunday set was a previously unheard selection. “This is a new song, so you know — go for a piss,” Yorke is quoted as saying prior to performing the simple, acoustically driven number.According to At Ease, the song is titled “The Present Tense”. Check out a bootleg snippet of it below (via melophobe)… and a YouTube video after that!No word on whether “The Present Tense” is a Yorke song or a Radiohead song, but either way, this marks the second new selection the frontman has debuted in the last week. On Wednesday, Yorke’s cover of Miracle Legion’s “All for the Best” surfaced on Stereogum."By Alex Young on July 19th, 2009http://consequenceofsound.net/2009/07/19/thom-yorke-debuts-new-song-at-latitude-festival/Mais...Yorke plays solo gig at Latitude

"Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has played a rare acoustic set to kick off the last day of the Latitude Festival in Suffolk.Crowds began to gather at the main stage with their breakfast rolls during the singer's soundcheck at 10am BST.By the time Yorke got on stage at noon, the audience equalled that of Saturday night's headliner, Grace Jones.Seated behind a grand piano, the 41-year-old opened with the title track from his 2006 album The Eraser.Good spiritsBut the shaggy-haired star defied expectations by playing Radiohead material, too.Set highlights included Weird Fishes, a track from the band's 2007 album In Rainbows, and elegiac version of Everything In Its Right Place, from Kid A.A stripped-back version of Harrowdown Hill, in which the musician looped a bass line and layered keyboard and guitar over the top, also proved popular with the crowd. In good spirits throughout the early morning set, Yorke's first words to the crowd were: "Shhh... There's people sleeping".Radiohead are an amazing band, but to see him on his own, approaching the songs in a different way, was really excitingIan Hannent, Thom Yorke fanLater, in response to a cry of "I love you Thom", he replied drily; "Yes dear, I'll be home later."Switching between piano, keyboard and guitars, he played several rare and new songs, including Follow Me Around, a track which had been "sitting on the shelf and never really come off the shelf"."Anyway, you can get it on Youtube now," the star joked.Radiohead's long-time producer Nigel Godrich was seen singing along at the side of the stage.Called back on to the stage for an encore, he rounded off the hour-long set with Radiohead tracks There, There and True Love Waits - from the band's live EP I Might Be Wrong.Fan Ian Hannent from London was bowled over by the show."It's a great opportunity to see somebody that good, so close up," he told the BBC News website."Radiohead are an amazing band, but to see him on his own, approaching the songs in a different way, was really exciting."Elliot Hulland-Camp from Canterbury agreed the set had been "astonishing"."I wasn't sure the time of day would suit this type of gig but it was the right mix of Radiohead songs and solo stuff."Because he's the only act on at the moment, as well, everyone came for this one event. It was pretty special."Yorke himself said he had had a "lovely time:The star will be back at his day job when Radiohead headline the Reading and Leeds festival on August Bank Holiday weekend.Thom Yorke's full set can be heard on Tom Robinson's 6Music show from 2000 BST on Sunday. "Brian Message helps oversee artist-friendly label PolyphonicRadiohead manager Brian Message has launched a new record label, Polyphonic, which will allow artists to keep their copyright.Although specifics details have not been released, the new company's policies look set to place emphasis on the digital distribution of music and may see release plans similar to Radiohead's 2007 album 'In Rainbows', which fans could choose how much to pay for when downloading it.Polyphonic is a joint venture between Message's company ATC and management firms MAMA Group and Nettwerk Music Group, reports the Telegraph.Artists are likely to get a 50 per cent share of profits, with their share increasing with success.Outlining the principles of the label, Adam Driscoll, co-chief executive of MAMA Group, explained: "We will do whatever is most effective to get an artist noticed. Giving an album away for free may get one million people listening to a new artist."It is yet to be announced which acts will be working with Polyphonic."NME.COM First For Music Newshttp://www.nme.com/news/radiohead/45856More...Radiohead manager teams up with Mama Group to launch record label

MAMA Group, the AIM-listed artist management firm, and Radiohead's manager Brian Message are taking on the music majors by launching a record label through which artists retain their copyright and digital delivery of music is key.Founded with an initial financial commitment of more than $20m (£12.2m) for its first year of operation, new label Polyphonic will partner artists and their managers to provide them with capital to operate their businesses without going to a traditional music label.Radiohead famously launched In Rainbows as a digital download that customers could order for whatever price they saw fit.The new label – a partnership between ATC, of which Brian Message is a partner, MAMA Group and Vancouver-based artist management firm Nettwerk Music Group, plans to look at innovative digital releases like this for both new and established artists.Adam Driscoll, the co-chief executive of MAMA Group, said: "We will do whatever is most effective to get an artist noticed. Giving an album away for free may get one million people listening to a new artist."For new artists, Mr Driscoll said Polyphonic would probably offer a 50/50 profit sharing deal, but established artists would retain a bigger share.MAMA Group, which has a market capitalisation of £38.4m, will provide most of the initial $20m of funding . The venture will seek additional funding going forward, with private equity groups expected to be targeted when credit markets recover.By Amanda AndrewsPublished: 9:50PM BST 04 Jul 2009 -TELEGRAPH.CO.UKhttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/5743310/Radiohead-manager-teams-up-with-Mama-Group-to-launch-record-label.html

Você encontra instruções para baixar o “Rain Down” no blog do DVD.

Matéria recente:

"Os álbuns "Amnesiac", "Hail To the Thief" e "Kid A" ganham edição especial no final deste mês. No início do ano, outros três discos da banda já haviam sido relançados em versão especial: "Pablo Honey", "Beds" e "OK Computer".

Mas é coisa de colecionador mesmo, pois cada álbum - que sai por U$ 31,00, mais ou menos (sim, esse preço é em dólares) - vem recheado de versões alternativas, vídeos promocionais, vídeos com performances veiculados na TV (a participação no "Later... With Jools Holland"), além das canções integrantes do repertório original.

É o projeto Rain Down que ficou pronto.

Segue trecho do papo:

Em algum momento você se preocupou com o fato de fazer algo que é considerado ilegal?

Andrews: Não me preocupei.

E muito menos estou me beneficiando comercialmente disso.

Radiohead's Thom Yorke: 'We need to get away from releasing albums'Frontman hints that making another conventional album 'would kill' RadioheadRadiohead frontman Thom Yorke has hinted that the band aren't currently planning to release another album conventionally. The singer said that he still had a lot of time for the album as an artform, but explained that to release another batch of songs in that format would "kill" Radiohead."None of us want to go into that creative hoo-ha of a long-play record again. Not straight off," he told The Believer magazine."I mean, it's just become a real drag. It worked with [2007 album] 'In Rainbows' because we had a real fixed idea about where we were going. But we've all said that we can't possibly dive into that again. It'll kill us."Yorke added that Radiohead "need to get away" from releasing albums in the traditional format.Instead, he hinted that the band may release new music via EPs or online (as they did with new song 'Harry Patch (In Memory Of)' on August 5).One idea the he and guitarist Jonny Greenwood have been mulling over includes a new batch of orchestral songs, to be released as an EP."Jonny [Greenwood] and I have talked about sitting down and writing songs for orchestra and orchestrating it fully and just doing it like that and then doing a live take of it and that's it - finished. We've always wanted to do it, but we've never done it because, I think the reason is, we're always taking songs that haven't been written for that, and then trying to adapt them," he said."That's one possible EP because, with things like that, you think do you want to do a whole record like that? Or do you just want to get stuck into it for a bit and see how it feels?"NME NewsAugust 10, 2009http://www.nme.com/news/radiohead/46596

Radiohead hit the studio for new album

Colin Greenwood speaks about follow-up to 'In Rainbows'May 18, 2009Radiohead's Colin Greenwood has told NME.COM the Oxford band have begun recording their new album with producer Nigel Godrich. The bassist revealed that the band went into the studio to start work on the follow-up to 2007's 'In Rainbows' last week (beginning May 11)"We've just started work [in the studio] last week," he told NME.COM. "It's really cool and everything is sounding great. It's early days and it is a bit like having a scrapbook at the moment because everything is up in the air, but it's good to be back in the studio."He was quick to praise Godrich, who has produced every Radiohead album since 1997's 'OK Computer'."He's brilliant," Greenwood gushed. "He can make everything sound like it's working together rather than us trying to kill each other."Greenwood was speaking at Brighton's Great Escape festival, which took place over the weekend (May 13-16).http://www.nme.com/news/radiohead/44728

deep blue

dear Radiohead,my name is Mark. I hope this reaches you. i know that you must get flooded with all sorts of e-mail by countless fans. and i am sure they fill you with all sorts of accolades. i hope what i have to say does not get lost amongst the rest. although clichéd as i might end up i have not come here to throw accolades at you. you know what you are to people. at least, by now, I would hope you would know. I am not coming here to tell you that I think the music you make speaks to me. that it has all of these meanings to me and my life. while it might, i know these were not your intentions upon writing. or at least this is what you tell the press. regardless of what intention you have upon doing anything, the fact still remains that you give people something. whatever that something is, depends on that human being. i am a miserable person. In my short 21 years i've hit my lowest low. my rockiest bottom. all that I can conclude upon many restless nights of thinking, mulling it over, contemplating, agonizing... is that all i want to do is establish some sort of relation. with Radiohead that is. i don't know exactly how to explain it right now. at least with my train of thought in this current e-mail. all that I can say is that it's getting harder to put up with this anymore. I am begging, please, don't pass me by. if any of you have ever wondered if you make any sort of impact on anyone's life this is an example to go by. i am no one, and here i am now trying to reach out to someone. and all i ask is please don't pass me by.much regards to you for taking the time out to read this,Mark.

Hi. I didn't write this, I friend did and already posted it here, I believe. I want to make sure it reaches the band, somehow.I really want to go to the concert, I've never seen Radiohead live and I won't be travelling to Europe or the US anytime soon, but I'm not going to pay ridiculous sums and contribute to the vicious cycle. I decided not to pay anymore excesive sums for international concerts, and I want to keep doing my own private boicot. But Radiohead for me is different. Just read the article, please. It says exactly what I'm trying to say.Thanks.Hey guys,HOLA; GENTE:I don't really know why am I writting this.NO SÉ REALMENTE POR QUÉ ESCRIBO ESTO.I'm pretty much a mosquito fighting a rhino, come to think of it, but I was outraged at 90% confirmed rumors that the tickets for Radiohead's show in Argentina would cost about 270 argentinean pesos (roughly 80 dollars), which is about 30% of an average middle class income in my country (!).BÁSICAMENTE, SOY UN MOSQUITO ATACANDO UN RINOCERONTE, SI ME PONGO A PENSAR, PERO REALMENTE ME SACÓ EL RUMOR 90% CONFIRMADO DE QUE LAS ENTRADAS PARA RADIOHEAD VAN A SALIR 270 PESOS (UNOS 80 DÓLARES) QUE REPRESENTAN ALREDEDOR DE UN 30% DEL SUELDO BÁSICO DE CLASE MEDIA EN ARGENTINA.The figure is ridiculous by any standards and, furthermore, the concert organizers are exploiting the fact that we're desperate to see a band as relevant as Radiohead in our own country.ES UNA CIFRA RIDÍCULA COMO SE LA MIRE Y, MÁS AÚN, LOS ORGANIZADORES EXPLOTAN EL HECHO DE QUE ESTAMOS DESESPERADOS POR VER A UNA BANDA DE LA RELEVANCIA DE RADIOHEAD EN NUESTRO PAÍS.I could choose not to buy a ticket, right?PUEDO ELEGIR NO COMPRAR MI ENTRADA ¿NO?I could organize a boicot.PUEDO ORGANIZAR UN BOICOT.I most surely will.CASI SEGURO LO HAGA.But what bugs me the most, what really gets to me, is that this comes from Radiohead.PERO LO QUE MÁS ME MOLESTA, LO QUE ME SACA, ES QUE SEA RADIOHEAD.If it were U2, Coldplay, well... fuck them. I'd skip the concert. No biggie.SI FUERA U2 o COLDPLAY, BUENO... AL CARAJO. NO VOY. NO HAY DRAMA.But I still believe in Radiohead!¡PERO YO AÚN CREO EN RADIOHEAD!For my generation they symbolize social awareness, and social awareness is poorly represented by ticket values of nearly 30% of an average middle class income.PARA MI GENERACIÓN, SIMBOLIZAN CONCIENCIA SOCIAL Y LA CONCIENCIA SOCIAL NO ESTÁ BIEN REPRESENTADA EN VALORES DE ENTRADAS DE UN 30% DE UN SUELDO DE CLASE MEDIA.And let me tell you: we, the middle class leftover in Argentina after countless crisis, are not that many. So let us not even discuss those poor bastards underneath our socio-economical level. They can't even afford dreaming about Radiohead.Y DÉJENME DECIRLES ALGO MÁS: NOSOTROS, LAS SOBRAS DE LA CLASE MEDIA ARGENTINA LUEGO DE LAS MUCHAS CRISIS, TAMPOCO SOMOS TANTOS. ASÍ QUE NI SIQUIERA HABLEMOS DE LOS POBRES TIPOS DEBAJO DE NUESTRO NIVEL SOCIOECONÓMICO. A ELLOS NI SIQUIERA LES ALCANZA PARA SOÑAR CON RADIOHEAD.So what's the deal, here, people?ENTONCES... ¿QUÉ ONDA?:a. Radiohead are not aware of the cost of their own tickets and their incidence on the average income in a country they're visiting?A. ¿RADIOHEAD NO TIENE IDEA DEL COSTO DE SUS PROPIAS ENTRADAS Y SU INCIDENCIA EN EL INGRESO PROMEDIO EN EL PAÍS QUE VISITAN?b. Is there nothing they can do about it?B. ¿NO PUEDEN HACER NADA AL RESPECTO?c. Do they even care anymore?C. ¿DEJÓ DE IMPORTARLES?I remember Thom recalling one of his nightmares during an interview in the late 90's: he was onstage and suddenly realised he was Bono (!).ME ACUERDO DE THOM CONTANDO UNA DE SUS PESADILLAS EN UNA ENTREVISTA A FINALES DE LOS 90'S: ESTABA EN ESCENA Y DE PRONTO SE DABA CUENTA DE QUE ERA BONO (!)Do we want that nightmare to come true?¿QUEREMOS QUE LA PESADILLA SE CONVIERTA EN REALIDAD?I don't, and I don't want to think it has come to that.YO NO, NI QUIERO CREER QUE YA ES ASÍ.But, hey, thanks for reading, whoever reads.PERO, EN FIN, GRACIAS POR LEER; QUIENQUIERA QUE LEA.Even though I'm not hoping for a reaction, thank you for allowing me this relief.A PESAR DE QUE NO ESPERO UNA REACCIÓN, GRACIAS POR DEJARME EXPRESARME.

Oh wow

lately, i've been listening to a lot of simple, country-esque or to be hipster about it, americana (yea hehe) music. there is a certain coming home vibe to it. makes me feel very much at ease--hold on, keep on reading, i'm not about to try and preach and all. listening to that kind of music makes everything seem simple and good and here is your bed, why don't you curl up and let momma sing you a lullabye.i thought this music is it. all's good, yea? no need to showcase technicality. no need for volume. everything's nice and pleasing. everything is all heart.but in japan, as i was watching radiohead, the only thing going inside my head is: no, no, no This is It. This is where it's at. To be completely juvenile: This is who i am.sure country-esque music, all that strumming and humming and all, pats my back. but radiohead, they make me want to be a better person. radiohead, i hope you're reading this. you're like who's-the-girl-opposite-jack nicholson-in-As Good as It Gets? you're like her and i'm saying: "You make me want to be a better man" only, change man to woman because i am a girl.i had wanted to write about the experience but i wasn't going to rush myself. you wanna know why? i want to give justice to the band and the music and the performance and the experience. yikes, there isn't a better way of saying it than in my native language: masukilan ko man lang kayo.am i sounding like an annoyingly earnest fuckface? sorry. it's just that the oct 2 was my first radiohead show. that was my first time in japan. and i met a man and and it wasn't casual or cheap or gross because that was a part of the whole radiohead experience . sorry, am i tmi-ing? apologies.there were a few times during the show when i had wanted, so badly, to close my eyes and allow music to take the lead. but fuck it, i needed to know, i needed to be sure that yes i was there. at the radiohead concert. oh, lookie, that's the band on stage. luckily, at the hostel i'm staying at, i met a french woman who had an extra oct 5 ticket. yes, i bought it for a double whammy extravagance.the music was more than enough. the band's presence was beyond my meter. at twice the love, now that's amazing. simply amazing.i'm sorry. it's just that i think all my friends have heard everything they needed to hear about the experience and here i am still a brimful, a month after. le effing sigh.so, yes, radiohead thank you. you don't just cradle me after a horrible day. your music makes me want to do things better, become a better person. it's where i thrive the most. so thank you.
