HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY

Thanks to Scotrail who fucked up my sleeper train reservation I will now spend a night in London and my friend C. (bless her) got me a ticked for British Sea Power who accidentally play that very night of all nights in London just around the corner from the hostel where I booked in.
It's fate, baby. I am supposed to go there.
I am so happy !!! I want to call friends to tell them about it. Unfortunately it is 1:15am. So dancing around my apartment a little will have to do instead.

TWENTY

it was almost that kind of day. like a day from before. something innocent and sweet and private and free and kinda dangerous can happen. any time. anywhere.
maybe it was because we were in a place like where i'm from. not where i'm from but like it. country roads. day bleeding into night. highway gas stations. small towns. being looked at. taking pictures in a field. the corn is that high, yes.
and with the sun roof open. and the ac on. and good music playing a little too loud. it all feels like a jeff buckley song. or that volkswagen commercial. actually that's what it feels like. and you're smitten. by the headlights bouncing off the trees and the macadam. by the smell of a humid country night. by all of it.
stars in the sky. eyes wide open. heart alla patter.

like you were before.

and you remember that don't you? through all the countless nights and missing parts and other forgotten stuff. you remember those certain days and places and smells and then things feel like that again. and it makes sense. how it all comes flooding back.

with the next thing.

In Limbo

Waiting for two things to happen, one of them is sort of important, the other one is very important. Keep checking e-mails every half hour. Not famous for my patience.
Good news: next British Sea Power album to be expected at some point early May. Could it be possible that they will play Glastonbury again??? That would be third time in a row, I hardly dare to hope.

I know I said I was going to talk about cultural diversity, but first I want to bring up an important info I just received...From January 25th thru the 29th, Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul is going to be hosting the World Social Forum 2010 (http://www.forumsocialmundial.org.br/).This is the sixth time Brazil hosts this event, receiving social initiatives from all over the world aiming at promoting and fomenting social, democratic, participative actions. This years the cultural panels at the WSF will be focused on the discussion about creative cities, perphery culture, independent culture or free culture. In Brazil, cultural policy has taken a swerve since 2003 in the discussion of culture as a key element for development. Culture is understood as a threefold phenomenon: culture as a key element for democracy and citizenship, culture as an economic activity and culture as a simbolic expression. Therefore, culture is regarded as a key issue for social sustainable development, rather than simply "beaux-arts"... culture is recognized as a simbolic expression that has a fundamental role in building a democratic, non-violent, collaborative community.. instead of promoting culture in central locations, in buildings and arenas designed espeacially for that purpose, Brazil focus on the decentralization and universal access giving space to the fruition of periphery cultural movements and collaborative social networks and independent or free cultural initiatives.Of course these creative cities and periphery cultural phenomena are just starting in Brazil and are far from being equally distributed in the brazilian territory. they are in fact concentrated in some cities and they do develop a great work in building social networks with collaborative methods. This Forum will receive many of these intiatives, some of them from Porto Alegre and the surrounding areas, and other from all over the country and the world, in order to discuss culture and cultural policy aiming at the development of a collaborative agenda for the social development. This is a website of Pontos de Cultura - cultural spots (http://www.cultura.gov.br/cultura_viva/?cat=4), which are some of this periphery initiatives, I was talking about..that's it for now!www.elewiit.com.br

SUBWAY

I was thinking about something to write in here in English. Well, I decided to talk about the SUBWAY.First of all, let me set the picture. I'm a green person and I try to stay green. I take the bus or the subway, instead of driving my car (it`s on my "to do list" to get rid of it). Anyways, usually, I take the bus because it's faster and cheaper. It's less than 100 m from my house and it drops me less than 50 m from work. AND IT'S $ 1 REAL CHEAPER. The subway it's good when I feel like walking and walking on the sun, the sun of CERRADO, I'm not sure how to translate that. It's a dry hot weather typical of high altitudes. oh yeah, back to the subway. The subway here costs around R$ 3,00 (Brazilian currency) according to todays exchange rate it would be around $ 1, 72 US Dollars. I think it's expensive, specially because it only goes one way and because the brazilian minimum salary is around R$ 510,00 or US$ 292,45. Did I mention, I'm talking about the subway of Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, one of the biggest countries in America and the world?Well, the subways has two lines, Samambaia and Ceilandia, which are both located in the same area of the Federal District. Also, it only goes half way Brasilia, to the Central Station.see for yourself

Source: http://www.metro.df.gov.br/005/00502001.asp?ttCD_CHAVE=5198.Note: this is a map available at the subway website and it does not reflects the map of Brasilia. To get the real picture you need to look the second picture below. As you can see in the photo, if you live in the middle of the way, it doesn't matter which way you're going. It's kinda of funny, because most of the people goes of the subway at the exact same place which is the central station. I mean, from the station to midway, the people only go in the subway. After that the wagon is crowed until you hit the central station. Which most of the times means you'll have to take another transportation and, HELLO, pay again. If you take the "integration bus" you don't need to pay, true. very true. On the other hand, the BUS TICKET ONLY COSTS $ 2,00 REAIS. And yes there is traffic and yes it is crowed, YES THEY ARE A THREATEN TO THE ENVIRONMENT, especially because they are shitty buses falling into peaces. Actually they are filthy engines in a nice carcases.Sometimes, it's difficult to make a choice, the subway is ridiculous. The price for the service they provide it's outrageous AND LET's NOT TALK ABOUT CORRUPTION FOR NOW, SHALL WE? Second, the buses are so pollutant as cars or more, because they are second-handed, LET'S NOT TALK ABOUT CORRUPTION, PLEASE.I really dream about a non-pollutant public transportation.I still can't believe that Niemeyer and Lucio Costa, the comunists designers of Brasilia, the modernists influenced by Le Corbusier, could design a city from scratch and simply forget subways. BRASILIA IS 50 YEARS OLD. maybe it was budgetary issues... as usual... How old are subways? I don't know.

Source: http://www.brasil-turismo.com/distrito-federal/mapas-df.htmNote: the original design of Brasilia was of a butterfly, but many people refer to it as the airplane city. And the lake was not there originally. some small rivers, I think, were sweved to make that lake around the city.Well, I'm a hepless optimistic, I have to believe there is going to be one day a decent public transportation in my country. I still prefer to take the bus, I think is better than the car considering I'm sharing the CO2 emissions with lots of other people. But what I really wish for it's a different kind of transportation, I guess. That's all for now. next chapter will be dedicated to cultural diversity and the french exception clause.

Net Neutrality STILL matters2me!

To the FCC:http://act.credoaction.com/campaign/fccnn_comments/?r=5157&id=7291-135849-p_n2CmxThe internet has offered creative artists around the world a platform to share new work and ideas with other like-minded individuals. Artists are typically loners with few examples of community. The internet has changed that for me and many other artists. The internet offers community, collaboration and education for people who may not feel comfortable in a group setting. I have learned and shared a lot of good work in the last five years, this would not have happened if the internet was limited to large companies serving their own agenda.I have been blessed to show my work in places that may not have found small-town me if not for a free and open internet. Here's the giant beach... I'm the grain of sand they found. I have found many gifted visuals from around the world with a laptop and a connection. This gave a shy artist from a small town - Community, that would be unable to contain the many creatives who populate my favorite works. To say the internet has changed my life as a creative would be an understatement.http://www.flickr.com/photos/bijoubaby/https://www.youtube.com/bijoubabybabyfavoritesNet Neutrality celebrates the creative potential of the independent individual... nothing more "American" than that.

Waiting for Daisy

Somehow I feel I cannot go to sleep until I have seen the storm arrive. It's 00.30, must be soon now. Tiny snowflakes are whirring around the street lamp outside my window. The large sycamore is almost motionless in its light. It feels like everything is in limbo, paralyzed in anticipation, waiting to exhale.
Except me, I'm rambling around my apartment, restless. Perhaps it is the massive low pressure system that is pulling my nerves sideways or perhaps it is just another of my insomniac nights, who knows.
