Random thoughts over lunch

Just a few hours ago, I ate lunch with people I work with. All nice and pleasant, we discussed a few topics, from that French radio animator who died to who might be next. Felt a bit uneasy, well I guess I just wasn't in the mood but betting on somebody's death over lunch is, to me, out of context.I have to admit that I go on http://www.ilsvontbientotmourir.com/ from time to time. And I laugh my ass off. So, yeah, wasn't in the mood. Then, we talked about how people were living longer. A workmate said then "You know, a girl who is born today has a ??% (don't remember, but was quite big) probability to live past 100". I bit my tongue before "How do you know humans will still have a place to live in next century ? And how do you know if life expectancy will not begin to drop ? I mean, floods, hurricanes, no food, no oil, no water..." could slip out. They're getting bored of my apocalyptic speeches. But, still. How will people react when statistics show that life expectancy goes down ?

SHOW THIS TO THE POLICE WHEN I TURN BAD...

hello, my lovely little w-a-s-t-e-ish chickadees, it's that time again; another blog (to go with the incredulous private messages asking me, not unreasonably, "what the fuck are you on about?").it has been over a week now, in no small part due to the lack of things that happen to me. i pulled a muscle, turning my key in the doorlock. that was nice, as it means i have an excuse for avoiding athletic endeavours for a while (i don't need an excuse, but it's good to have one. i then tripped over the cat (the cat has been trying to kill me for months now), causing bruising to the old intercostal muscles, due to a mighty collision with the floor.those of you who have to google "intercostal muscles" are the lucky ones, as anyone who knows about them will already have grimaced at the rememberance of how uncomfortable it is to do them in. how my ribs remain unfractured is a mystery to science.i would take my revenge on the evil cat (who is called "dog"), but it flies in the face of my vegan principles. shite. besides, i'd be putting it out of its misery; given that a previous owner let it fall out of a third storey window. the cat is disabled (broken pelvic cradle) and has neurological damage from said fall. awww.it's still a little bastard, though...regular readers (yes, both of you) will recall the adventures of the lucozade bottle / mobile phone jakey from a previous blog. i am pleased to report that, along with a fellow road-runner, he now holds court at an underpass near the university building in edinburgh. the smell isn't good, but they have tastefully furnished the underpass with patio furniture, stolen from a nearby store. they don't have chairs yet, but the table looks good, particularly with the parasol up. it even matches the colour of their tins of tennent's super. mmmm, refreshing!(pauses blogging to pretend to work)yes, i'm at work. fortunately, sundays are quieter than an edinburgh charity coffee-morning (though, gladly, not nearly as tight). as a result, uni work continues apace. unfortunately, what started as an exercise to write three sonnets has become an open death threat letter to simon cowell. nice sentiment, but unlikely to draw the best grades. still, it beats working, i suppose. simon cowell, the man who gets paid to slit the cultural throat of the world live on tv and drink its still warm blood. as bill hicks may have said, "a demon, sent here to l-o-w-e-r the s-t-a-n-d-a-r-d".the only thing wrong with sundays at the ol' death star is the couple sitting nearby. they're young (possibly still living with their folks) and they keep holding hands and gazing into each other's eyes. it's enough to make a care-bear vomit. before you discount what i'm saying as the bitter rantings of a lonely old man (which, in part, they are), read the following;they sit opposite each other, then take separate breaks, so as to be able to sit next to each other during the breaks (whilst one continues to work) and hold hands some more! it's not right and it's not romantic. i'm a believer in love (as you all know) but this is gut-wrenchingly wrong. i also suspect that they share at least one parent.putting that to one side, remember - i love you all (just not in that puke-worthy, vaguely incestuous kind of way)i do. i love you.steve x.

The movie is called FUGA DAL CALL CENTER (Escape from the call center) and it's about a very important Italian (but not only) problem: difficulties in finding a job for the young, very often graduated!, workers.Check it out on the site www.fugadalcallcenter.com

train vs plane: 0 : 1

Here we go, I've got the train tickets for Glasgow!I noticed once again how crazy this world is: everything is done to incite you travel by plane, and it became shockingly cheap. On my opinion taxes should be set, for plane trips, in order to set the concurrence as it should be, taking in count not only the market price but also the effects on environment. The idea began with the cars (those who pollute should pay), but slowly, way too slowly as far as I'm concerned. Thom's right, without laws, I don't see how we'll make it. You can't expect from the majority to decide to travel a slower AND more expensive / complicated way...For me anyway, a plane trip was not an option. I'm worried enough about our planet, at least I'm not going to make the things worse. Luckily enough, I can afford the train (Lausanne - Glasgow: around 500 €!).I'm so glad Radiohead are communicating and acting in the same direction. There's just no other way out, but there's still lots of people to convince...

it's all happening!

so the stranger, matt, turned out to be an amazing guy...we met up and had a real long conversation about all kinds of things and seemed to really get along well...i haven't seen him since that meeting 2 weeks ago and now we are leaving tomorrow for Florida! We will drive tomorrow for as long as possible and then possibly get a hotel room off of 95. Sunday we will make our way to gainsville to meet up at my friend Robert's place.Monday is the first show! I love first shows. I love the anticipation, the unknown. I can't wait to see the stage setup and what the intro music will be, and of course the band. I plan on getting to the venue early to listen to soundcheck. All these big venues are outside so that will be great for hearing soundchecks. In atlanta we are staying with my good friend luke and that will be the first show I have a pit ticket for. Gotta get there early! I even bought a cooler cause i know the area around the atl venue is a tad shaddy. Anyway I am super excited for this trip and ready to have an amazing journey. I will probably post my thoughts on the shows here, and I will be taking pictures!it's all happening!!!m

nostalgia

so uhm... yeah, I was supposed to be arriving in miami right now but I'm stuck in the office. times like this can be pretty depressing, seeing how I'm not able to see my absolute favorite band in concert. some very good friends are going to west palm beach and tampa "on my behalf"... it would've been great to share this with them and I wish for the best. I know I really enjoyed my two shows in blackpool and that I'll never forget such an experience......guess this is what you get when you want a bit too much.I don't know... I'm still debating myself about getting into massive debt and seeing them in europe later on or something.not having a US visa sucks... really.help? :(

Lot's of Updating

So.. despite the fact that radiohead wont ever come to this god forgotten place called latin america i still have another things i want to blog about.. mainly cause it was labor day yesterday and pretty much everything is stuck till tuesday cause we celebrate our victory over the french ocupation during maximilian time..so im stuck at work with nothing better to do.The 12 of last month i went to mexico city , i was suppose to go to a baptism but i lied to my boss and the reason i traveled was to go to this small fest where i had the chance to see live Bright Eyes , My Morning Jacket and the Smashing Pumpkins..also , the mars volta wich it isnt exiciting at least for me to see live..So it Rained all night and then all day..and i had no jacket on .. just a t shirt and later another one i bought on the concert.. coming from someone used to at least 30Celcius at mid day , being at 2 celcious was a shock... tho when the music started i forgot about all that and went straight to the stages..we had 2 stages one where bright eyes was about to play so i went to see them.. Funny cause the freaking sound check was 45 minutes long and in a fest thats asking for the crowd to boo you...so Connor Orbest Finally went out and they started to play , sadly mainly songs from Cassadaga wich i dont like that much i mean it does have it's moments but i was waiting more songs from im wide awake its morning .. i got to hear this is the first day of my life wich was cool.. then a sappy pop band named belanova came to the stage , i had to endure the cold and their crappy music cause i wanted a close spot for my morning jacket...so My morning Jacket finally came to the stage playing it beats 4 u from "Z" they played almost all "Z" except for my big time favorite dondante , i really enjoyed MMJ Live , their show was so energetic and magical than even connor orbest came to the stage to see them play..Later that night after getting some food and no beer , was too cold to drink beer , i had a few smokes and waited for The Smashing Pumpkins a band that i had 12 years wait to see live , i know corgan can be pretencious and a pain in the ass but he had wrotte in my humble opinion some amanzing songs that i will never forget...Sadly in order to see Corgan and whats left of his band i had to endure 25 minutes of My Chemical Romance and then 45 minutes of pushings , rain , and assholes smoking pot all over the people but it was all worth when i heard the first chords of today.. listening to a song lik Mayonaisse live was overwhelming.. i do have to admit i had some tears coming out specially when corgan and i screamed can anybody hear me? i just want to be... ME!! but when i can.. i will..i also had a chance to see on one of the screens part of the show of the mars volta while i waited for the pumpkins and lord they suck so bad live i mean is not like they are not amazing musicians , or instrumentists is just that at some point you dont even know what the fuck they are playing and also omar the lead singer its very disrespectful with the crowd , he trew a microphone base to the audience and was about to smack someone with a gas tank... tore up all the stage ... i dont know , not the kind of show that i like to see..so the night ended and i was tired , voiceless , with some bruises but it was all worth.. i went home wondering if the smashing pumpkins experience was so intense then Radiohead live is going to kill me. i know it will be a hard mix of emotions that i wont be able to control.the rest of the week i went to work , i was also scared , big city and all that but in the end i even got a job offer and an open door for whenever i want to cross it and that left me with a huge smile and .. strangly feeling proud about my self...i took a lot of pictures so spect me to update this blog post with links to them...

New songs??

Some previous reports from radiohead have suggested they have written and rehearsed a few new songs... This hasn't really happened before.....except I suppose, for the end of the 1998 tour "how to disappear" and "nude" were played, and during 2001 the early "reckoner" was played. During the Hail to the Thief tour there were no songs newer than that album played. so of course it's possible that new songs might not be played during this tour, but it sounds like there are a few, and of course a few mysterious songs like "pig's ear" and stuff like that from sessions leading up to in rainbows that must have been pretty good. so, to get to the point, in a week or so (for myself) and less than that for others, there may be a completely new radiohead song to hear and marvel at! It's hard to comprehend, I suppose, and possible that new songs if any emerge in concerts, won't be played til later in the tour. Also definitely excited about the video recordings of apparently ten or so songs including "optimistic" "where i end" and "myxomatosis" along side in rainbows songs which will emerge tomorrow. I won't be watching those until after next friday, but that isn't too long to wait!

Civil service - Administration

One more reason to say the French legal system is sooo fucked up. Translation might be a little haphazardLEMONDE.FR avec AFP | 02.05.08 | 08h36Un Français déchu de sa nationalité française après son mariage avec un Néerlandais"J'ai l'impression d'être renié par mon pays, mes racines, mon héritage. A Frenchman loses his French nationality after his wedding with a Dutchman"I feel like I have been denied by my country, my roots, my heritage. I am treated like a criminal". In his testimony to Libération and Le Parisien, Friday May 2nd, Frédéric Minvielle, 37, says he is "outraged". This Frenchman living in the Netherlands was deprived of his French nationality after marrying a Dutchman and getting his spouse's nationality. Installed in the Netherlands since 2002, M. Minvielle got married there on the 6th of December 2003 and got the Dutch nationality in 2006, "because this country acknowledges my love and my marriage", he explained. When he registers on election boards of the Amsterdam consulate late 2006 to vote at the 2007 presidential election - "I voted for Sarkozy who is now removing my nationality" he deplores, - the intrigued consulate deeds his case to the Justice department. According to a convention between France and the Netherlands effective since 1985 and modified in 1993 and 1996, a citizen of one of the two countries gaining the nationality of the other country loses his original nationality except in case of a wedding and a strong willing to keep his initial nationality."Particularly humiliating" decisionBut as France does not acknowledge homosexual weddings, Frédéric Minvielle got said by the Consulate, in December 2007, the deposition of his French nationality, according to documents the AFP got a copy of. He was asked without a break to give his ID card and his passeport back, which is refused to do. The case got revealed by the French magasine Têtu."If I were a woman married to a Dutchman, there wouldn't have been a problem, but I am a man married with a man" and therefore "considered as single by the French law even though I have a legal marriage act", he informs.Others European countries (Belgium, Spain) legalised homosexual weddings and others unions giving the same rights as a wedding (Denmark, Sweden, Finland). The SOS homophobia association protests against a "particularly humiliating and symbolically inexcusable decision", and demands that the government "immediately returns this man in the French nationality".-----All of this inside Schengen space...Unfortunately this is quite common in France. My dad was born in Germany, and, even though he is French (and his parents were French as well) he has tremendous problems to get various official papers (ID card, car registration documents, he has been asked once if he was sure he got the right to vote in a polling station.) since the Pasqua law in 1993. Yay, Europe...
